MARKO JAKŠE
Made in France
January 25 — January 30
Opening on Monday January 24 at 7pm
"When I get enthused by a painting,
there is at once another dusty one to be found somewhere getting
hysterically excited, and then when it digs me in the neck and
thunders to the floor behind my back, I vibrate all over: suddenly
full of hate towards any kind of hierarchy, the aiming and hitting
of nails, I no longer know through which of these painted canvases
would be sweeter to make love to him, He that clearly isn't, not
at all, or He whom there won't be for quite some time."
Marko Jakše
Thirteen years ago Marko Jakše wrote these sentences about his
work, which completely expose the position of the artist in the
time when the walls of the Škuc Gallery last displayed the works
of this boundless Slovenian painter.
Made in France, a series of paintings which Jakše
is putting on show in Slovenia for the first time, were made last
summer during the time that the artist resided in France. This
time the story that the artist brings with him remains secret
even to us, although it can certainly be said that the world of
many faces will yet again leave an impression on every visitor
prepared to meet up with his micro cosmos.
