VUK ČOSIĆ
DUETI / DUETS
December 14 - 31, 2006
You
are kindly invited to attend the opening
of the exhibition on
Thursday, December 14th at 8 pm at
Škuc Gallery.
The Dueti ("Duets")
retrospective exhibition has been
organised to commemorate the artist's
arrival in Slovenia, and conceived so as
to document the social network and
creative friendships developed since
then.
Contrary to the author's
main body of work, which primarily
revolves around the development of
internet and new media art, this
exhibition shows mainly works which are
analogue or material. The exhibits were
created as an excuse for socialising and
a common creative approach to artistic
issues.
The array of projects
focuses chiefly on the issues of
perception of one's own time and space,
and the quality of public dialogue on
external reality. The sternness of time
is contrasted with polite conceptual
humour, which heals the spirit and
sharpens perception.
Works
1. Le Coco
Fruitwear; with Matej Andraž
Vogrinčič, 1995
The project of a fashion
house for bananas was created as part of
the Urbanarija exhibition, and
stems from the hypothesis that naked
fruit in our streets is ethically
questionable and a bad influence. Such
debauchery is defied by a fashion line
containing several thousand pieces.
2.
Post Deadline Productions; with
Irena Wölle, 1996
The first visit of the
Pope in Slovenia was not accompanied by
due display of piety; therefore, the gay
community felt that they, too, should
express their support by putting up
posters on selected locations in
Ljubljana.
3.
Nation-Culture; with France
Prešeren and Matkurja, 2000
On the occasion of the
anniversary of Slovenia's greatest poet,
the National Museum of Slovenia decided
to display manuscripts and other
treasures, and complemented the
exhibition with a new-media project
based on the poet's work. Search
keywords from the Matkurja.com web
browser were presented in typography and
typesetting consistent with the first
edition of the Garland of Sonnets.
And thus again, the spirit of the nation
spoke through Prešeren.
4.
RIGUSRS; with Alenka Pirman and
Irena Wölle, 1997
The catalogue of the
Biennial of Young Artists from Europe
and the Mediterranean needed to be
edited, which led to the establishment
of the Research Institute for Geo-Art
Statistics of the Republic of Slovenia.
Later, the Institute staged a
performance of canonising the standard
measure for the Slovenian Mediterranean
metre.
5.
Greater Slovenia; with Davor Bauk,
2003
The project explores
different presentation of the Slovenian
territory on the maps of Europe and the
world. The consensus is that Slovenia is
very decorative.
6.
History Homme; with Matej Andraž
Vogrinčič, 2006
The mass media report on
current political and cultural issue
through the eyes of trendy decisions of
protagonists. History fashion house was
established with the purpose to expand
such progressive way of thinking to the
perception of history.
