SCCA, Center for Contemporary Arts – Ljubljana has been organizing World of Art, School for Contemporary Arts for nine years. It consists of: a course for curators of contemporary art with concluding exhibition project, a series of public lectures, a seminar on how to write about contemporary art and a yearly anthology.
During The Course for Curators the participants are introduced to contemporary, especially Slovenian, art and to theoretical and practical aspects of curatorial work thorough tutorial meetings with mentors, visits to current exhibitions, reading professional literature and research assignments.
Participants test their proficiency while preparing a concluding exhibition project. In the school year 2005/06 the participants have chosen to concentrate on problematic of abandoned (industrial) premises, which might be used for contemporary art. Thus the participants or young curators are inviting you to:

- pre-opening performance Vlasta Delimar and Milan Božić will spend the night in the former factory Rog on Thursday, June 22, 2006 in the Factory Rog (from 9 p.m.) and

- opening of the exhibition project Open Rog on Friday, June 23, 2006 at Factory Rog (at 7 p.m.) and at Škuc Gallery (at 9 p.m.)

Exhibition project
Open Rog

The participants of The Course for Curators in the school year 2005/06 present concluding exhibition project entitled Open Rog, with which they support self initiative transforming of the Factory Rog into a space for independent production of cultural and social contents and thus help co create a new space for contemporary art.
The title of the exhibition refers to the opening of the industrial premise which has been abandoned for 15 years and at the same time stresses the essence of the open art work, which is completed only upon its reception by the spectator. The participants have “opened” the concept of the exhibition to all the interested artists, invited them to get into dialogue with the abandoned industrial space, its context, history or current initiative of its temporal use and propose an art project which takes the factory as a starting point (site-specific in the literal meaning of the word) or as a challenge for modification of an already realized project.
The participants have chosen 16 art projects; most of them will be exhibited for the first time. The exhibition has been dis-mantled since the wish was to establish a dialogue between a already traditional space for this type of exhibitions (Škuc Gallery) and new “non-gallery” space of visual arts (Factory Rog).
Škuc Gallery displays photographies of the factory happening and Rog’s architecture by Pavel Koltaj, Bojan Salaj and Antonio Živkovič. Photographical recount is supplemented with artistic transformed information about activities in Rog by Zaš Brezar and art tandem of Saša Spačal and Luka Prinčič.

The particularity of the exhibition in the Factory Rog is its inseparability from art practice and projects displayed in the factory. Because participants and artists; Artgroup RGB, Vlasta Delimar and Milan Božić, Blaž Erzetič, Irma Gnezda, Aleksandra Saška Gruden, Jure Legac, Mateja Peroša, Pila Rusjan, Simon Svetlik, Robertina Šebjanič and Mojca Zlokarnik, are only some of the many temporal users of the factory and because they don’t want to deprive the visitor of the integrity of experiencing Rog, the exhibition blends in with the environment to a certain extent.

We invite visitors to look for micro locations of projects Open Rog upon visiting vast Factory Rog.
